For the school there are three things currently beginning done or are scheduled for starting soon.
To begin with the latrines at the school are both a nightmare and a severe health hazard. At this moment a building containing twenty four lavatories is under construction and we hope to be able to show you our progress in this in a month or so.
The next priority is water. Tanzania is not short of rain when it comes, but that quickly dries out and evaporates away. When the school was built, it was designed to be completely without guttering round the roof as you can see below.
When the rains come the water pours off the rooves onto the footpaths and is totally wasted.
Calculations have shown that simple guttering on the rooves could collect as much as 42,000 liters of clean, safe water per annum. So it is our intention to build a water storage unit and to collect this valuable resource.
During the latest visit in October 2008 it came to light that a little over a Kilometer from the school some 200 feet up a hill there are 3 natural springs. |

Utilizing this natural spring water would have several distinct benefits over and above those of harvested rainwater from the school rooves. It would enable water to be delivered with enough pressure as to enable European style toilets and hand washing facilities to be incorporated in the teachers accommodation currently under construction.
All staff and teachers have to walk to and from the school in all weathers and this we know has deterred some teachers from considering working at the school. Therefore it is intended to provide a high level of housing for teachers to encourage them to stay at the school as well as to attract 'gap year' students.
Seven teaching staff for six hundred children has the teachers strained to the limits and it is our intention to make the school more attractive to teachers by providing accommodation for teachers. It is our intention to initially increase the number of teachers by two. Work is currently taking place on staff accommodation and we will show you pictures after our next Trustee visit in November.
